“Where You Are” is a story about my mother and me and dementia. it is a story about my journey with her, told through images, writings, memories, before and after she passed. It is a story of many timelines and intergenerational stories of healing. A story of love and loss, but most of all, I hope it is a story that shares light for anyone who has experienced dementia in their lives.
“Where You Are” is the first published book of Pākiki Press - a creation of Harete.
Meaning of the Word - Pākiki - I was an inquisitive child who constantly asked questions and Pākiki is a kupu / word that reflects this and expresses my desire to share many stories that have been calling me for a while.
Pākiki Press aims to share stories through limited edition print and handmade books that uplift and bring inspiration and healing for humanity and the environment.
Pākiki Press celebrates te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and you will often see the use of te reo in our publications as well as kaupapa / topics that honour te ao Māori, a Māori worldview and an indigenous perspective.
Pākiki Press launched Where You Are at Te Papa on August 8th 2026 during the Photobook NZ festival It was a casual launch where I gave a talk alongside others, it was so much fun!
“Where You Are” is a limited edition publication of 200.
Each book is numbered and signed and is printed in Aotearoa, NZ in line with my desire to support local printers. You will not find any of Pākiki Press books in book stores - they will all be sold direct from Pākiki Press and on the odd occasion in collaboration with others who align with our kaupapa.
