My Mother and Me - I am about 5 years old here and she is probably 42? We are sitting at a bus stop in Fiji during my first overseas trip!
“Where You Are” is a story about my mother and me and dementia. it is a story about my journey with her, told through images, writings, memories, before and after she passed. It is a story of many timelines and intergenerational stories of healing. A story of love and loss, but most of all, I hope it is a story that shares light for anyone who has experienced dementia in their lives.
“Where You Are” is the first published book of Pākiki Press - a creation of Harete (me!).
Pākiki Press aims to share stories through limited edition print and handmade books that uplift and bring inspiration and healing for humanity and the environment.
Pākiki Press celebrates te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and you will often see the regular use of te reo Māori in our publications as well as kaupapa / topics that honour te ao Māori, a Māori worldview.
Pākiki Press will be launching with Where You Are at Te Papa on August 8th 2026 during the Photobook NZ festival which runs from 6th - 9th August 2026. “Where You Are” is a limited edition, small batch publication of 200.
Each book is numbered and signed and is printed in Aotearoa, NZ in line with my desire to support local printers. You will not find any of Pākiki Press books in book stores - they will all be sold direct from Pākiki Press and on the odd occasion in collaboration with others who align with our kaupapa.
