Papatūānuku

I spent a lot of time with this work! Many layers placed and then removed, water mixed with paper and dyes, many conversations with Papa.

I realised this work was for me and anybody else who needed to remember their innate power and beauty. And that our reconnection back to the whenua is important now more than ever. If there is one message I want to share with any of these works, it is, to heal our whenua, because when we heal our whenua and our relationship to it, we heal ourselves.

Materials: Whataupoko whenua, harakeke on harakeke paper. Untreated pine frame stained with native. (a deliberate act of reclamation of whenua and honouring rākau Māori)
