Earth Water Light Stone

It doesn't matter what happens in my day, there is always a sense of being held by earth, water, light and stone. All things that I love, that are expressed creatively through my art.

I often think about how beautiful te reo Māori is, how every word tells a story and every word has meaning that connects us back to Papa, to the elements, the environment.

Connection to who we are as Māori is connected to place, land, water, sun, moon, stars. And when I ask myself, ko wai au? Who am I? I remember that I am wai, water. The essence of life that flows through me and the earth. Without it we would not survive.

And the light that gives life that grows a tree, that reflects back to me the light that lives in me and all human beings.

He toka tū moana.
I love this whakatauki. It is a reminder of the strength of a toka / rock to stand in a strong current and a reminder of the strength of water to shape rock. And life can be like this sometimes where we find ourselves digging our toes into the sand to keep ourselves afloat. And how our experiences shape who we are and can make us stronger.
